Work Day today: not much else going on! We met up with the bus this morning: it
turns out it's a sort of general service for many people to get to work.
Our host had been playing with the system early that morning, and there was a list of
minor glitches to be fixed and requests that he wanted, so I was busily working on it.
This stuff's not easy, y'know!
Found out something else interesting about this company: they turn off the lights in
the cafeteria when the lunch break is over! Easier than forcing the employees
out with cattle-prods, I guess...
It took until 9:00 p.m. to fix all the minor glitches. Ugh! Hope this
doesn't prevent us from trying to get to Sicily again: I'll have to see how it goes
tomorrow.
Since we were there so late, we missed the bus back to the hotel. Our host told
us the Security guard knew a guy who would give us a cab ride back to the hotel. He
turned out to be a real character!
This cabby claimed that he is on call 24 hours a day: he said he was called out of bed
to come get us! His English was not so great (very strong accent) but he was very
friendly. We saw some fireworks on the way over, and he told us they were testing
for the upcoming Millenium celebrations.
He also gave us a good recommendation for dinner (and in fact was nice enough to wait
for us at the hotel and drove us there). It was a really good pizza restaurant
called Ik-kona. Unlike the service last night, the service here was *extremely*
quick: not 5 minutes after we ordered we had our food. *Great* pizza, and lots of
variety: I got a pie with several different toppings (including one side that had a sweet
curry-like flavor). The only thing that was disappointing was the desert later: the
apple pie they had was cold and straight from a box.
We walked back to the hotel (I'm telling ya: it's not a big island), and I went to
sleep immediately. Have to meet the bus tomorrow at 7:30 am!
