Mont St. Michel and ToursTuesday we visited the monastery of St. Michel. The monastery is located on the top of an island (since connected to the mainland by a bridge). During low tide you can practially walk to the island (if you like cold mud, that is: it's off the coast of Normandy). The monastery is very beautiful and is quite an impressive site when approaching the island. It has been a center for pilgrimage since the 8th century. The island itself has become quite a tourist attraction, with lots of little shops & various things. We went on to Tours afterwards, but the rest of our tour (Ha!) there would wait until tomorrow... |
