 Waterworld (PG-13)Starring: Kevin Costner, Dennis HopperContents: Violence, profanity, female nudityRating: 7Summary: Kevin Costner is the Mariner, a half-man, half-fish denzien of a world without dry land. He ends up helping (not by his choice!) a woman and a young girl search for the mythical Dryland, with the help of a map tattooed on the back of the young girl. Along the way, he is pursued by the Smokers, a group of pirates who smoke cigarettes (purchased where, I ask?) and use the "Exxon Valdez" as their home base. This was a reasonably good film, although I don't that it was worth $200 million, which is about the cost of the film. I think I would have enjoyed it more if it hadn't been so hyped. It felt sort of like Mad Max Conquers the Ocean, or something (the costuming and action felt very similar). Interesting trivia bits: 1) If the polar caps actually did melt, it would only raise the sea level by about twenty feet, and 2) the "Exxon Valdez" has been broken up for scrap, so it was darn clever of the Smokers to get their hands on it. Probably they rent it at the same store they purchase their cigarettes. |
